HCG Diet

How the HCG diet works to lose you weight 


HCG diet is a means of weight loss that depends on small doses of the Human Chorionic Gonadatrophin (hCG) hormone. HCG is found in the urine of pregnant women in high concentrations.

The diet was proposed in the 1960s by Dr Albert T. Simeons, a British born physician. It was captured in his book “Pounds & Inches” published I nthe early seventies.

The diet got renewed attention with the publishing of Kevin Tradeu (a lawyer) book called “The Weight Loss Cures - They Don’t Want You To Know About”. Tradeu seemingly has a weak reputation.

Generally speaking alternative weight loss strategies like weight loss supplements to diet pills tend to attract controversy. But HCG is even more controversial. This HCG weight loss debate on the morning show with Mike and Juliet is an example of how much heated debate this hormone diet can attract.

However in this page, the video takes us through the four phases of the HCG diet. The diet is based on th premise that you lose weight using Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD) of 500 calories a day, then use HCG injections or sublingually (under the tongue) to preserve your lean tissues.

VLCDs are guaranteed to lose you a lot of weight fast. But usually the downside is the hunger, cravings as well wasting away of lean tissues like muscle and even organs. This is what makes VLCD unsuccessful for most people long-term. But the HCG diet claims inclusion of the hormone in what they call the HCG protocol helps you deal with hunger, cravings and muscle loss.

HCG diet is in four stages. As the lady in the video mentions, the first phase is a detoxifying stage that is not a requirement. This is immediately followed by phase two.

In phase two, you start eating specific foods without exceeding 500 calories a day. You are encouraged to lean more toward high fat foods rather than the starchy type. The first two days of phase two are done without any HCG hormones. The hormone is introduced in the third day.

During the second phase you are discouraged fro using oils, lotions etc. You are encouraged to drink a lot of fluids; water, tea etc. Adequate sleep is also encouraged. The lady also suggests supplementing your VLCD with vitamins and the minerals Magnesium and Potassium.

If your target weight loss is 15 pound or more you will be on the 2nd phase for 43 days. If it is 15 lbs or less, then you stay in phase 2 for 23 days. Women can expect to lose an average of half a pound a day while men can lose one pound on average daily.

In phase three you will stop taking HCG for 72 hours. However you will still remain on the 500 calories a day diet. After the three days you can then progressively increase your calories however you will need to eliminate starches and sugars completely for the next three weeks. That means no bread, potatoes, yams etc.

If by phase 3 you are not on your target weight, you need to wait six weeks before repeating phase 2.

Phase four is where you adjust you lifestyle to keep your target weight. You are encouraged to eat low glycemic index diets, as well as organic foods. You can also include exercises for improved health.
