What Is Wrong With Low Fat Diets And Low Carb Diets

Popular weight loss diets like low carb diets e.g. Atkins diet or even low fat diets like Dean Ornish diet miss something really fundamental in their design. As Dr. Jonny Bowden notes in this video, they tend to obsess or make a "religion" out of a particular food group.

For example low carb diets emphasize so much in reducing carbs forgetting that carbs are a necessary energy food group in your diet in form of whole carbohydrates. Low fat diets on the other hand obsess with fats forgetting that all fats, saturated, poly and mono unsaturated fats are essential requirements in your diets e.g. for your hormonal well-being.  Because all food groups are important in a healthy form is the reason  Fat Loss 4 Idiots (lose 40 lbs with Calorie Shifting ) does not emphasize on any food group at all, whether in terms of inclusion or exclusion.

As Dr. Bowden correctly notes in the video, there is really no one-fits-all weight loss diet. Why, because we are all different. Our body types are different, our likes and dislikes are different, our reactions to different foods are significantly different. For examples some people eat like a pig and will just not add weight. Some eat like a bird and have a weight problem.

Ofcourse this does not mean that Atkins Diet or even the Dean Ornish diets do not work for some people. The contention is on both on the sustainability and long-term health and results of individuals on these diets.

These are the two points I like about Dr. Jonny Bowden in this video. First is the emphasis on avoiding an obsession with any particular food group. Secondly is the fact that he brings to light that there is really no one-fits-all diet.
