Bupropion Weight Loss

Bupropion weight loss is an off-label prescription

Bupropion weight loss is an "off-label" use of buprion which is specifically approved as an anti-depressant drug. It is associated with clinically significant weight loss of about 5 pounds in 8 weeks. However Caralluma is highly recomended as a natural and safer alternative.

Bupropion is also approved as a smoking cessation drug. The drug is marketed as Wellbutrin the antidepressant and Zylon the smoking ceasation drug. Wellbutrin weight loss is a major side effect of the drug.

Bupropion weight loss like other approved weight loss medications like phentermine weight loss and sibutramine weight loss is also a central nervous system stimulant. It affects neurotransmitters in the brain inhibiting the feeling of hunger.

However unlike them, it mainly affects dopamine and norepinephrine rather than serotonin.

As you can see, drugs used for weight loss tend to alter your brain chemistry. This is based on the belief that to lose weight you need to reduce your calorie intake. But what most people donot know is that to lose fat; specifically to lose belly fat and get a flat stomach, you need to "Go Beyond Calories". Infact you need to "Go Beyond Calories" and focus on two things, just two things. Watch this short video below to see these two things...

Neurotransmitters are brain chemicals used to send messages with the central nervous system and the brain. They are released by nerve cells and stimulate reception on other cells.

Once the message is sent, the neurotransmitters are destroyed or absorbed into the cell that produced them. This is technically referred to as neurotransmitters re-uptake.

Bupropion affects dopamine and norepnehrine by inhibiting the re-uptake.

Inhibited re-uptake results to the message of the neurotransmitter to be sustained as well as amplified. Dopamine and norepinephrine tend to amplify and sustain the feeling of fullness or satiety.

A study with the sustained release formulation of Bupropion in combination with lifestyle intervention i.e. energy restricted diet and exercise resulted to significant weight loss in obese patients in a 24 week trial.

The study further showed that the same regime could sustain the weight up to 48weeks.Obviously further studies on bupropion weight loss are necessary to ascertain it’s safety and efficiency on weight loss. Meanwhile some doctors continue to prescribe it for weight loss.

Bupropion was invented back in 1966 by Burrough Research who are today known as Glaxo SmithKline.

It was patented in 1974 meaning its patent ended in 2004 making Bupropion generic available.

It was approved as an antidepressant drug by the US FDA in 1974.It was again approved this time as an anti smoking drug in 1997.

Bupropion shows wide possibilities because it is being investigated not only for weight loss but also Attention Deficient Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) as well as Restless Leg Syndrome.

Recently it was approved for Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Though not approved for the following it is prescribed "off-label" for bipolar depression, Arthritis, Chronic fatigue, irritable bowel syndrome and as a bupropion weight loss.

For weight loss the dosage reported for Bupropion SR (sustained release) are 400mg/day and 300mg/day during 24 weeks. Bupropion showed an extent of dose dependant effect in weight loss. 400mg/day resulted to 10% loss of total body weight and 300mg/day resulted to 7.2% compared to a control that had only 5.0%.

Note the control was a diet and exercise only and the other were diet, exercise and bupropion. And though the higher dosage had better results it also had the most side effects.

Always, drugs need to be used as adjuncts to a weight loss diet as well as weight loss exercises. Unfortuantely drugs have side effects. Diet supplements offer a natural and safer alternative. But only few diet supplements offer such good results as bupropion. One such supplement is Caralluma. It has shown to have better results than the leading weight loss supplements today.

Side Effects of Bupropion Weight Loss

Common side effects of bupropion include headaches, dry mouth and diarrhea. Others are excitement, anxiety, dizziness, vomiting, tremor, constipation and excessive sweating. Some of the serious side effects include seizures, confusion, hallucinations, irrational fear, fever, severe skin rash, itching, swelling of face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, ankles or lower legs, hoarseness muscle or joint pains and irregular heart beats.

Higher doses show higher cases of side effects. In particular, Bupropion has show suicidal thought in children and adolescents. It should not be used for these age groups. Fortunately for bupropion weight loss the dosage needed to effect weight loss is less that that used for treating depression for which the drug is approved.

Like other drugs, bupropion does interact with some prescription and non-prescription drugs as well as Vitamins and herbs so you need to inform your doctor of anything you are taking.

Weight loss drugs are used only in obese patients who are not responding to other life intervention methods. And just to know, they are never used alone, you need to combine them with low energy diet and preferably exercises and behavioral treatment.

However, if you want to lose alot of body fat; if you want to  lose belly fat and get a flat stomach or even a six pack, you will need more that a drug or supplements. The truth is that you need to "Go Beyond Calories" to lose belly fat fast, easily and permanently. You need to "Go Beyond Calories" and focus on two things, just two things. These two are....
