Celebrity diets are graced by the famed, spanning from fashion models like Anna Nicole Smith, to renowned motivational speakers like Dr. Phil McGraw. As a matter of fact some of these celebrity diets are complete with book, DVD and even a line of supplements.

Celebrity diets are diets for losing weight that are endorsed, promoted or modeled by some celebrity. The logic behind celebrity diets is simple. Many TV stars look good and have many fans that are willing to imitate them.

So a diet being promoted or endorsed by a particular celebrity would automatically attract their fans. 'It is not the diet. It is how these people look [like] that is the draw' says Victoria Shantan Retetly, Rd, of Northwestern Memorial Hospital Wellness Institute in Chicago.

Jack Yoeger, a nutrition coach in Los Angles who gets celebrities into shape is reported as saying that celebrities look good and the public would want to do what that famous personality does to look good. This would mean, if your favorite model, one that you fancy, is using a particular diet, you easily gravitate towards using it so as to look like her, hence the concept of celebrity diets. This inclination can be inspite of lack of scientific evidence.

A major underlying factor to the fame of celebrity diets is losing weight to look beautiful like the fame personalities. Consequently there has been a blurring between losing weight for health purposes and weight loss for beauty.  Fat Loss 4 Idiots (lose 40 lbs with Calorie Shifting ) highlights on the differences between these two and shows how to approach each for ultimate results.

Celebrity diets however have attracted a lot of criticism especially from dieticians and nutrition experts and many times for a good reason. Most of the experts fault the celebrities often having dismissed the diet program all together. Their general sentiments are similar to Samantha Heller Ms. RD, and senior clinical nutritionist and exercise physiologist of the New York University Medical Center, "Just because someone is a celebrity doesn't mean that they know what they are talking about in terms of diet and health"

Celebrity Diets - Are They Good or Bad?

What one need to understand first is that celebrity diets are basically the common contentious diets. Only this time they are endorsed or created by a famous personality. For example the weight loss diets like South Beach Diet and even Atkins Diet are endorsed by some stars, while Oprah Weight Loss and Bob Greene Diet were created by Oprah Winfrey and Bob Greene respectively. Also understand that a number of these diets do help you loose some weight otherwise they wouldn't be selling this long.

What is contentious is the means by which they achieve this weight loss and whether or not it amount to keeping it off. The 'science' if ever there is, by which the celebrity diets effect weight loss is considered by many experts in nutrition as unhealthy and fad i.e. meaning based on beliefs not factual science.

Some reports indicate the success rate of these diets to be between 20-40%. Successful weight loss here means maintaining your weight loss for at least a year, without regaining. Often you regain all the weight you lost and at times more. This is because most of the diets in the market do not target, ultimately, a change in lifestyle, which is necessary for sustainable weight loss.

But some celebrity diets seem to have their acts together. A diet like Dr Phil Diet (Its online version Shape Up) develop and promoted by Dr. Phil McGraw seems like a diet a liberal health expert would recommend for weight loss. Its food planning is similar to the USDA Food Pyramid, it even recommends exercising though not with emphasize weight loss exercises deserves. Most of all it tackles the mental attitude for weight loss, an ignored aspect of weight loss.

Among celebrity diet that have attracted sneers from some health experts is the SomerSize Diet, promoted, researched and developed by Suzzane Somers a Holly Wood star. She stands by her meal plans which she says are delicious, healthy and effective.

Celebrities are a watched lot. The motivation to look good is much much higher than what your motivation to look good would be. Anna Nicole Smith a fashion model and spokeswoman for the diet pill TrimSpa Formula X32, is said to have starved herself as she liked the praise she got after losing weight on this appetite suppressing pill. Today the pill is referred to as Anna Nicole Smith Weight Loss

Since their financial worth at times may be linked to their size they have a specifically unique incentive to lose weight. So they often have the ability to withstand even the most restrictive of diets.

On the other hand, celebrities have at their disposal resources you may not have. They have personal cooks and nutritionist to worry about the calories, personal fitness trainers to advice them on exercises, free product and other such retainers that greatly assist in weight loss and subsequent weight management.

Even with all this, celebrities still take it too far. Matt Damon in preparation for a role in the movie 'Courage Under Fire', shed 45 pounds by over exercising and a strict high protein diet. He later was to look perfect for the role. He however admits the regime induced an adrenal gland disorder that made him deathly sick.

Robin Quiver lost 70 pounds after dozens of failed diets this time using the Master Cleanse Diet, a fasting diet. Participants in this program do not eat, but use a concoction of fresh lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and water. Robin has fasted consecutively for 21 days a number of times. Not withstanding the fact that extended fasting is dangerous. It can lead to dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. But does a celebrity care; they need to look good now.

You, however should care, the hospital bills can be daunting. Though there is a rare need for it, Fat Loss 4 Idiots (lose 40 lbs with Calorie Shifting ) also shows techniques for effecting fast weight loss as promoted in some of the famous diets, only safer.
