    Dr Phil diet like others like Oprah Weight Loss falls in a group of diets referred to as celebrity diets

    And just like the famed talk show host, Oprah Winfrey, Dr. Phil is neither a nutritionist nor a dietician. He is infact a motivational and self- improvement speaker. But he does tackle the pressing issue of weight loss quite well. 

    Dr Phil diet is probably one if the better celebrity diet programs. Although Dr Phil diet popularity is riding on the popularity of Dr Phil himself, it may be deserving. If you were to pick any diet, Dr Phil diet, if properly followed would give a sustainable loss of weight. 

    The diet implies that when you are out of diet, you are out of control. This doesn't sound polite but is to some very good extent true. Institute of Medicine puts it more crudely. It defines obesity as "a complex multi-factorial disease of appetite regulation and energy metabolism". One of these factors is attitude, which Dr Phil as a psychologist is well versed in. 

    Actually this weight loss plan is one of the few famous diets that approach weight loss in a significantly different way- psychologically.   Fat Loss 4 Idiots (lose 40 lbs with Calorie Shifting ) identifies effective and permanent weight loss to be dependent on two fields of science- psychology and physiology. 

    It further divides each into two to come up with the top four reasons why you fail in losing weight. Dr Phil's diet handles two of these reasons superbly.

     

    How Does Dr Phil Diet Work?

    This diet is designed around what are called the 7 keys to weight loss. These are namely
      1. Right thinking for self control
      2. Healing feelings
      3. No fail environment
      4. Mastery over food and impulse eating
      5. High response cost high yield nutrition
      6. Intentional exercise
      7. Circle of support
    Central in Dr Phil McGraw's diet is the mindset of the participant in the program. Some quarters have referred to Dr Phil Diet as a mind game. The food plan and inclusion of exercise in the program is the widely accepted way to loose weight. However the failure of many weight loss programs is lack of addressing the patients' attitude during weight loss. Reducing weight is a daunting challenge and both strength of mind and presence of mind are required for success. 

    Dieting like any other forms of success requires the right mental attitude. All significant successes are always accompanied by change in lifestyle, whether career or business success. Likewise a diet prepares you for this change by changing your paradigm concerning foods and obesity related factors. 

    Dr Phil Diet covers this gap quite well. He aims to position your mind to understand that this will be a long challenge with ups and downs but if you stick with it you will achieve your ideal weight. 

    It is with interest that you will realize that Dr Phil Diet is based on the classic balanced diet. This balanced diet has evolved into the food pyramid, infact he does have his own food pyramid, which is essentially the FDA's Food Pyramid. The term High response cost/High yield nutrition is similar to the term Glycemic Index. Both are commonly used weight loss tool

    Further, this diet includes a conscious effort to exercise. A dieting regime that excludes exercising is often not sustainable. Physical work is the natural way of inducing a calorie deficiency and use up extra body fat. The diet encourages vigorous exercising for at least 20 minutes for a minimum of three days in a week. However apart from this weight loss exercises does not seem to be a central theme.

     

    So is Dr Phil Diet a Revolution?

    This famous diet has the advantage of being independent, individual and non-restrictive. Using Dr Phil Diet you can eat nearly anything healthy, provided you watch your portion as opposed to restricting you to some foods. 

    Dr Phil Diet tackles the motivational part of dieting quite well; the food planning is also good. However the lack of exercises being central and more elaborate may weaken the program for some particular types of bodies. 

    About Dr Phil Diet being a revolution . . . 

    . . . this diet recommends what has been suggested for years by health agencies- lifestyle or habitual changes for permanent weight loss. It is indeed the better of the celebrity diets out there. Its recommendations are quite sound. Infact it beats most other diets for a wide profile of individuals. 

    Yes it does bring some breath of fresh air in the weight loss industry. 

    It is important that you note that Dr Phil has included several issues rarely tackled by most weight loss programs.
