    This in turn triggers hormones that encourage the body to turn most of this glucose into body fat for storage as it is not needed in the quantities available.

    Green Tea seems to regulate this glucose conversion to body fat by keeping it available for immediate use for energy. This automatically reduces the amount of body fat your body creates.

    A substance called Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG), a catechin polyphenol found in Green Tea, is credited for this effect. EGCG is an anti-oxidant similar to Vitamin E. However it is considered many times more powerful.

    As an anti-oxidant EGCG lowers cholesterol, prevents lipogenesis, encourages fat oxidation, reduces bad breath, fight dental cavities and is an anti-carcinogenic as well as an anti-bacterium.

    (ii)
    The second effect is through an increase in thermogenesis. Green Tea ingredients intensify levels of fat oxidation and body’s production of heat, (Note this increase in heat has nothing to do with being active) resulting to increased metabolism. This contributes to why green tea is considered a fat burner.

 

Green Tea Weight Loss – the Magic

What is even more interesting is that this Green Tea Weight loss effects are exclusive to Green Tea. Black tea, Oolong tea and green tea all come from the same plant Camellia Sinenisis. However both Black and Oolong tea do not exhibit weight loss characteristics. 

The magic of green tea weight loss lies in how green tea is prepared. As opposed to the other tea leaves, green tea is not fermented before steaming and drying. Usually to make tea leaves after harvesting, the leaves are fermented, steamed and then dried. Green tea is processed without fermenting. The steaming further protects EGCG from being oxidised. In the other teas, fermenting the tea leaves converts EGCG into other compounds that do not have the drastic properties of weight loss in Green Tea. 

There are several kinds of green tea, all with some weight loss properties. They include Gyakuro, Mach, Genmaicho, Bancha and Sencha the most popular in Japan. The taste may not be to every-ones liking, luckily there are products that are contain concentrated extracts of green tea. This same weight loss extracts are the ingredients of most Green Tea based weight loss supplements. 

Even with the buzz building behind this herbal weight loss supplement, it is important that you understand that green tea weight loss is in itself is not a weight loss solution.
