Having a clear set of goals is the first step to ensuring success. Once the goals have been established it is a good idea to create the necessary support plan that is going to assist in making the desired goals a reality.

    One thing to consider is the type of diet. Diet is important. The individual who is looking into hypnosis for weight loss, diet plans that work well with hypnosis are going to vary. For example, if the craving for carbohydrates was dealt with using hypnosis and that was preventing a healthy low carbohydrate diet then instituting a low carbohydrate diet at this point would assist in facilitating the established new pattern. By not reintroducing, the food that needs to be avoided the body and mind has time to assimilate and accept the new habit.

    Another thing to consider is the type of person who can be hypnotized. Not everyone can and there are times when it may not be apparent until it is tried. People who are unable to relax tend to have difficulties when it comes to hypnosis. The reason behind this is that hypnosis is similar to meditation. If a person cannot reach the state where meditation is possible, the chances of being able to be hypnotized are reduced.     Visualization is one of the biggest and most frequently used techniques. It is not for everyone. There are some people who have difficulty when it comes to visualizing complex scenes, which may make it difficult to use this technique. Visualization requires building a mental image and often includes both audio and tactile visualization in addition to the visual representation.

    Affirmations are more often used since they can be considered suggestions. These are simply positively worded statements that are designed to create a space within the mind to allow that goal to be accomplished. For example, an affirmation may include a statement that iterates the ideal weight loss goal or the ideal lifestyle. This helps especially with hypnosis for weight loss to create a mental picture different from reality. Once the mental picture is accepted the body automatically attempts match reality to the picture. This in turn helps weight loss.

    A suggestion is basically a command to the mind to do a particular activity or see something in a positive or negative light. For example, the suggestion that a person's favorite junk food tastes like burning rubber can actually produce that taste no matter how many times the person attempts to eat their favorite food after the suggestion is made they will continue to taste burning rubber rather than the taste of the food and avoid it.
