We know that our children weight too much on average. We know that obesity, which is being "fatter than fat", is rising into a real epidemic.

People feel a sense of urgency about losing weight, and the want to lose weight FAST.

The problem is that weight that they now want to lose fast wasn't put on fast. It was put on over periods of months or even years.

It seems to them as if they just put it on almost overnight, and that if they just LOOK at a piece of chocolate cake they gain weight. But that's just not true.

The only reason it seems to them that they put their weight on so fast is because they put it on so EFFORTLESSLY. It's very easy to just put on weight. All you have to do is eat lots of starches, refined sugars, and saturated fats, and be quite lazy and avoid physical exertion as much as you possibly can, and VOILA!, you've got extra weight on your bones.

But now those same people often come seeking ways to quickly lose the unwanted weight. Now, there is nothing wrong with that, and with diet plans like
Fat Loss 4 Idiots (lose 40 lbs with Calorie Shifting ) it is possible. The problem is in being in such a hurry that you lose sight of safety and the part you play in the process.

You can lose weight fast but. . .

You see, it only takes a few moments to notice the good-looking men and women on television, in the movies, in advertisements, on the Internet, and to suddenly realize that you would love to look as fit and healthy and sexy as they do.

Ah, but you see them in just an instant, yet none of them got that way in just an instant, and many of those beautiful people would be fat themselves if they weren't working in a disciplined way to keep the fat off every day of their lives.

Our society is plagued by this delusional need to have everything known or done in just an instant. This is impossible. Things that are lasting and worth having all take time to develop. It doesn't matter if you're talking about technology, tools, music, novels, scientific knowledge, intimate personal relationships, or a healthy body. Everything lasting and worthwhile takes time to create.

Now, you can lose the weight. And, there are ways of losing that weight rapidly. But rapidly doesn't mean overnight. And by all means, it does not mean that there's an effortless way of doing it.

There are people who claim to have lost weight by taking certain dietary supplements or changing their diet over so that, for instance, they eat a lot more fresh fruits and vegetables and increase their metabolism all without doing any extra physical exercise.

But even if some of their stories are true, notice that they still had to make an effort. They still have to be disciplined, patient, persistent, and do the right thing. They can't just keep on doing the same thing over and over that made them put on the unwanted pounds and then expect to find some magic pill that melts away all that fat. The human body does not work that way, and it's ridiculous to think there's some secret way of violating the laws of nature to melt way 25 or 50 or 100 unwanted pounds just by sleeping on it.

Fad diets, "thin is vogue" and health scare

Another royal scam that those who want to lose weight fast fall for is the celebrity fad diet. Some actress or TV talk show host gets hired to promote some latest dietary discovery. And, of course, all you have to do is eat tasty foods in a certain magical way, in magic combinations; you only have to workout lightly, if you even do at all.

Sure, maybe you just skip one or even two meals (especially the dreaded breakfast) per day and suck down a specially prepared milkshake, then have a delicious lunch and/ dinner--and of course, those shakes are so special that they leave you feeling satiated all day long.

The problem is that even if this high priced magic diet program or product works for a while, it will eventually fail you. Here's why: not only do these diets NOT satiate you after a while, once you've lost some pounds (that is, burned off much of your fat stores that you need for energy) making them impossible for all who aren't masochists to continue with, but you'll eventually hit a wall because you're not doing anything to speed up your metabolism -- which is the key to all permanent weight loss.

Why do you think these diets come and go and keep on growing in number? Because they don't work longterm, that's why.

But how do all of these fakes and false promises continue to find people who will buy into them? It comes down to the cult of image.

For one thing, our society touts "thin as in". And the media don't distinguish between healthy, slender people who have sleek, lean muscles and those other people who look like you could snap them in half with your bare hands, who have sunken cheeks and dull eyes. That latter group of scrawnies is a very unhealthy group to be in -- and to most people, they are not sexually attractive, either. Yet the media sells them.

And then there are the self-proclaimed health experts, who terrify you with talk of all the diseases you have or are about to get by tomorrow if you don't lose all of your unwanted weight today.

And, while it's true that being overweight can lead to all of the health problems and the early death they talk about, they don't tell you that you've got time to change your weight -- and, you NEED that time, too.

If you're not already dead, you've got the time you need to lose the weight, keep it off, and make yourself a lean muscle machine. And the irony is: if you take your time and do it right, you'll find that you DO lose weight fast. A diet like Fat Loss 4 Idiots (lose 40 lbs with Calorie Shifting ) is actually designed for this.
