'No Flour No Sugar Diet' is supposed to be a simple weight loss diet developed by Dr Peter H. Gott. It is not exactly a Low Carb Diet but more of a smart carb diet similar to the later carbohydrates re-introduction stage of South Beach Diet

'No Flour No Sugar Diet is designed to be a simple to follow and an inexpensive approach to losing weight. It does not include support products like special foods, calorie counting or menus, simply a ‘no flour, no sugar’ rule. 

It does have some remote low carbohydrate diet characteristics, in that there are some types of carbs to be avoided. Other than that this weight loss diets cannot exactly fall in the low carb group. 

It tends to resemble the widely recommended Glycemic Index Diet which is based on the now popular Glycemc Index. Glycemic Index (G.I) is a measure of how a carbohydrate food affects blood sugar once it is digested. The No Flour, No Sugar Diet Basics

A food with high G.I increases blood glucose resulting to an increased insulin production to allow body to be able to utilize the blood sugar. Insulin is associated with turning the extra glucose into body fat for energy storage. Rapid increase and decrease of blood sugar is further associated with increased need for food. Both processes contribute to weight gain. 

Both flour and sugar have very high G.Is. The 'No Flour No Sugar' diet rule targets to eliminate these two foods that consist of a large portion of your diet. They are replaced with whole-some carbohydrates. This 'No Flour No Sugar Diet' may not be a celebrity diet but it is quite sound health-wise as far as food planning is concerned. 

And though the diet doesn't demonize fats, Dr Gott does not promote it either. The ‘No Flour No Sugar’ Diet does not address fat directly but the assumption is that a lower intake of flour is accompanied by lower intake of fats. For example elimination of white bread goes away with the butter.

You need to get them from your daily diet even when losing weight. However, your choice of dietary fats is critical as they can not only add to your weight but clog your arteries leading to heart diseases. 

The ‘No Flour No Sugar Diet’ is designed around reduction of calorie intake. If followed through it can result not only to sustainable weight loss but also weight management. It does not have severe restriction nor elimination or over promotion of any foods. However, it is still not a comprehensive weight loss solution.

Demerits of No Flour No Sugar Diet

There are two aspects of sound weight loss that the 'No Flour No Sugar Diet' doesn’t address at all or in a significant manner. First is exercise. 

Since the diet is a low calorie diet, promotion of a calorie deficit is central to its success. This calorie deficit is achievable in two main ways, low calorie intake and exercising to increase calorie expenditure. The 'No Flour No Sugar Diet' covers the former more than the latter. Studies have shown that addition of weight loss exercises to a weight loss diet results to better weight loss maintenance. Second is what he, Dr Gott, calls "the intellectual or psychological aspect of weight loss". 

Successful loss of weight is indeed based on the psychological preparation of an individual. If this is not well tackled in a diet program, like it is not in this one, the participant may give up in the process. 

Fat Loss 4 Idiots (lose 40 lbs with Calorie Shifting ) classifies these two aspects slightly differently. Based on the top four reasons for weight-loss failure, the book identifies the two main scientific fields upon which successful weight loss depends on. 

It further divides each of these into two and shows you how to work with each to attain permanent weight loss.
