Obesity
With the fast
development of technology nowadays, the rate of obesity among children has
drastically increased. Many kids spend more time in front of the computer, TV,
or video games, rather than spending their time with outdoor games. In the United
States alone, the ratio of overweight children is one to three. This may be
truly alarming because being overweight exposes the child to many congenital
diseases.
One of the most
prominent reasons for childhood obesity is the diet of the family. Because of the busy schedule of the parents
preparing healthy and nutritious food for the family is not always done. The
new millennium offers not only high-tech gadgets that catch the attention of
the kids to play video games rather than outdoor games, it also gives parents
the idea to feed their kids with instant food rather than cook.
If you are a
parent who feeds your child with instant food and allows him to stay all day
long in front his gadgets, now is the time to pause and check the negative
effects obesity has on your child.
Childhood obesity will lead to a variety of serious problems. Aside from
social issues, it leads to serious health problems that will be carried over by
your child later in life. Because obesity nowadays has become an epidemic
affecting many American children, parents should do all they can to help their
youngsters lose weight if they are obese and prevent obesity if they are still
at their normal weight range.
It is common
knowledge that obesity leads to many chronic diseases like high blood pressure,
heart failure, and diabetes. The danger posed with a youngster’s obesity is its
lasting effect and damage when he is an adult. Most likely, an obese child
becomes so insecure with his looks that he tends to withdraw from his peers. In
later life, he may develop an extremely low self-esteem, which may develop to
severe depression that will lead to suicide. Therefore, a parent plays an
extremely significant role in guiding the youngsters to avoid experiencing such
predicaments.
The parents’ role
in this is the most essential part of the child’s battle against this extra
weight. Support and understanding is a must, and a parent’s encouragement must
keep the desire of the child to lose weight. The truth is that there's a weight-loss
diet that is right for your child. To become successful in losing weight, you
must create a habit. Yes, it is not just about having the diet and fitness
program that you think is right, but the habit.
Deprivation is an
improper way to diet. Starving your child is not the solution, but there is
proper information on how to carry on the right discipline to lose weight
effectively. Eating plenty is not harmful as long as the foods are things like
fruits and vegetables. Instead of eating junk food, give your child more fresh
carrots. One of the most proven ways to be effective in shedding off weight is
to chew the food as much as possible.
Swallowing food quickly will make a person crave more food. The parents
must be the role model for their children. Demonstrating the right eating habits
and eating what is right will lead them to a healthier life.
