Somersizing has been transforming along a series of four books that entail the Suzanne Somer diet.

Her first book was 'Eat Great, Loss Weight'.

Here she recounts where her journey of dieting begun.

She was then a single mum and was rejected for a role in a TV series because she was "too chunky" she admits that though she was 29 years old she was 20 pounds overweight.

She narrates with nostalgia how she used fad diets including TWA Stewardess diet to Waterman diet.

Fad diets are so called because they have very fast results followed by just as fast regains.   "Go Beyond Calories" (And Lose Belly Fat Permanetly)  deals with the inherent errors in fad diets.

The fad diets lacked the longevity required for permanent weight loss due to hunger a feeling of deprivation and consequent frequent binges.

She was in this state for quiet a period of time as she needed to retain her body image.

Food Combining in Susan Somers Diet

It is in this book that she introduces the concept of food combining that is a central theme on somersizing. This among other arguments she makes for her diet resulted to a review by Health Magazine unflatteringly referring to it as "gibberish" and full of "pseudoscience".

The sequel 'Susan Somer - Get Skinny on Fabulous Food', improves on the details of the diet. Here she introduces fats as good for health. However in all her diet book she has consistently considered sugars as the enemy. On the controversial side, here she claims she got skinny on fat!

Basically SomerSize diet involves eliminating sugars from your diet and eating right combination of what she refers to as somersize food groups.

There are four somersize food groups. The first are proteins and fats. Proteins include meat, poultry, fish and eggs. Fats include those in their "natural state" like oil, butter, cream and cheese. The second group is vegetables which includes a host of low starch fresh vegetables from zucchini to pepper. The third is what she calls carbos. These include whole grain pastas, cereals, bread, beans and non-fat dairy products. Finally fruits make up the fourth somersize food group.

In her third release, Get skinny she says "The group of food to eliminate are called "funky foods" because they do not fit into any of the somersize food group." These funky foods include white sugar, brown sugar, raw sugar, corn syrup among others. Other eliminated foods are alcohol and caffeine. Interestingly nearly all celebrity diets from Jennifer Lopez diet to Oprahs weight loss are wary of alcohol.

Her latest and fourth book which may be consolidation of the SomerSize diet is called Suzanne Somer - Fast and easy.

Her diet approaches weight loss in what she refers as two levels. Level one is the weight loss portion of the diet which involves losing fat. Level two is the subsequent level that involves weight loss maintenance. In this second level you need to be acquirng the somersizing lifestyle.

Though there are mentions of weight loss exercises, SomerSize diet is primarily an eating plan. This is reinforced by the fact that her book contains quite some length of detailed recipes.

The diet notably goes into detail of differentiating simple carbs from complex ones. It points out which ones to use and why. But her position on dietary fat is quite controversial. The liberal attitude towards protein and fats raises suspicion.

She does however have anecdotal evidence of the success of her diet on varying individuals. In her website SuzannerSomers.com these is a page dedicated to success stories, complete with pictures.

Entry into the SomerSize diet involves 4 steps according to her website. The first step involves purchasing her latest look 'Fast and Easy' to get background information the diet. You do have the alternative of purchasing the SomerSize intro kit instead. It includes her two earlier books and videos describing her whole diet.

Step 2 involves joining SomerSize community which you can do free of charge at the website. The next step is skipable and involves a selection of food stuffs you can buy; including somersize pasta and sweets.

Step 4 is a commitment stage where you post you "before picture". Hopefully in time, you will post the "After picture" on achieving your success.

Like many other controversial weight loss diets, Suzanne Somer diet does have its fans as well as success stories. The truth of the matter is that there is no a "one-fits-all-diet". On the other hand there are better diets than others.

But when it comes to losing body fat; particularly getting a flat stomach or even six pack abs, you will ultimatelly need to Go Beyond Calories. To do this you will need to do two things. Just two things, these two are...
