Waist Circumference

Waist circumference is simple yet effective indicator

Waist Circumference is a simple yet very effective weight loss tool. It has proven to be accurate, as an independent factor, in predicting risk for obesity related disease like cardio vascular disease, Type II diabetes, dyslipidemia and hypertension.

"Flat Stomach Formula" (Get The Lite Version FREE Here)  , considers a tape measure and waist circumference measurement  a primary weight loss calculator in a weight loss program

Excessive total body weight as measured by the bathroom scale or even other tools like Body Mass Index (BMI) has significant errors. Both do not consider body composition which may vary between two individuals of similar weight. This difference may put one individual at risk of co-morbid factors that accompany obesity while clearing the other as healthy.

Waist circumference is the distance around the narrowest point on your waist as viewed from the front. This means that you do not place the tape on top of the "love handles". You should use a non-stretching tape snuggly fitting it. The tape should be parallel to the floor with the test individual standing up straight. Take the reading from the front, rather than from the back.

Men should consider themselves at a health risk if their waist circumference is equal to or above 40 inches/102cm. Women are at risk at 35 inches/88cm. However if your height is less than 5ft your waist circumference scale is significantly lower than these standards.

Body composition as emphasised in "Flat Stomach Formula" (Get The Lite Version FREE Here)  is key in determining health. Many of the older weight measurements like total body weight or even the widely used BMI do not take this into consideration.

As much as one may weight above average they are not necessarily "obese". A body builder who may be classified as overweight by BMI may actually have a one digit body fat percentage meaning they have very little body fat.

Waist circumference considers fat that is deposited in the midsection or abdominal area to determine body composition. And though different people deposit fat different, nearly all of us will deposit significant amount around the abdomen.

Abdominal adiposity, as it is referred technically, is associated with increased risk of particular disease. The waist circumference measurement has been used even in another measurement Waist Hip Ratio to even better relay body composition. However, it is believed that Waist Hip Ratio is a less accurate than either BMI or waist circumference in determining health status.
