Weight Loss Aerobics

Why weight loss aerobics are not very effective

Lose 40 Lbs In 12 Wks

Weight loss aerobics are viewed by many as means of losing weight. Yet there are very few that can claim that the weight loss they have achieved is particularly attributed to weight loss aerobics.

As weight loss exercises become more and more recognized as important in both weight management and loss of weight, weight loss aerobics have also attracted quite some attention. Indeed GHF Weight Loss (read a detailed review here) insists on some form of weight loss exercises to achieve permanent weight loss.

Aerobics are kind of exercises that require intense breathing while performing them. They include jogging, walking, cycling, skiing etc. An exercise is referred to as on aerobic exercise for losing weight when it’s performed with the express intent to result to weight loss. Generally one aims for what is referred to as the "fat burning zone". Examples include weight loss cardio; running for weight loss and walking for weight loss.

Fat metabolism occurs with the supply of oxygen at the same time as the demand of calories. As a result, it is theorized that aerobics should lead to loss of weight. However the truth is that it is extremely hard to only exercise yourself thin.

Many studies have come to the conclusion that aerobic exercises have a minor effect on fat loss. And this is not because there is no “fat burning zone”. Rather it’s because of two main things; first your body is a highly efficient machine as it concern’s energy. Secondly fat contain twice the amount of calories you get from carbohydrates or proteins.

In the first case whenever you are engaged in an aerobic activity, the amount of calories burnt do not directly translate directly to the amount of fat calories used in the exercise.

You will need to subtract the amount of calorie that are usually used when you are at rest to come up with the exact extra calories burnt in the exercise. Usually this figure is much lower than the calorie counters in your machine may show.

The more accurate way to estimate the amount of body fat used up in an exercise is to take the amount of oxygen breathed into context.

Each litter of oxygen consumed generates approximately five calories of energy. So if an exercise used up 40 liters of oxygen you will have used about 200 calories of body fat. It doesn’t matter significantly if that exercise took 20 minutes or two hours. On average, most aerobic exercises use up 187 calorie per session. This will then translate to one pound of fat loss in 4 weeks. And this is if you exercise 5 days a week. Meanwhile a weight loss diet only program can lose you up to 2 pounds of body fat in a week. And what’s more, studies have shown that even combining dieting and weight loss aerobic exercises only increase weight loss marginally though also significantly.

Weight Loss Aerobics and Muscle Loss

Another basis for recommending weight loss aerobics is usually based on the notion that such exercises will reduce muscle loss.

Loss of lean tissue such as muscles is always a bad idea in weight loss because it further reduces the amount of tissue that your body needs to keep alive; hence, reducing your resting metabolic rate (RMR/BMR). But unlike weight loss strength training, weight loss aerobic has not shown to be intense enough to result to muscle preservation.

So does this mean that aerobics are useless in losing weight?

Certainly not. Actually GHF Weight Loss (read a detailed review here) recommends them as well as other forms of weight loss exercises. Weight loss aerobics may not be such a huge contributor in the actual weight loss. However, they are the primary reason that one prevents weight regain if done consistently. The National Weight Control Registry that keeps data on individual that have lost weight and kept it off for more than two years have shown that individuals that are involved in any kind of structural physical exercises do not regain weight.

In particular aerobic exercises keep the level of fat oxidation high. Aerobic exercise increase fitness and improve the cardiovascular pulmonary system. This means you are able to deliver oxygen more efficiently. This makes your body system to be able to use energy better by using fat. And though this sequence of events doesn’t necessarily lead to significantly high fat loss, it does contribute significantly to stop weight regain.

All in all weight loss aerobics are more of means of keeping the fat off rather than losing fat. To learn more,  In the next page, you get a detailed review of GHF's weight loss plan.
