Weight loss hypnotism takes an individual through an altered state of consciousness and their subconscious accepts suggestions and the body follows. Two approaches, reframing method and the flash method are used. In the reframe method, the unconscious is made to take on the responsibility of substituting destructive behavior that causes weight gain, not directly to lose weight though this is the secondary goal. But this technique is carefully mapped out to suit the individual’s preferences.

The NLP frame guides the subconscious to take responsibility for their actions because the subconscious is led to conclude that everything that happens is because of one’s actions and decision. You are responsibility for everything that happens to you. As a hypnotism strategy, the mind dissociates triggers that cause overeating. It is your responsibility to stop food bingeing because you are responsible for your well-being. The cause – is the frame from which the hypnotism method is applied.

The Flash Method in NLP bears on conditioned responses. If the subject eats too much while watching TV, the technique pairs the two behaviors. The method separates the two behaviors so the subject does not watch TV and will not eat while watching TV. The method stops the TV watching mind to detach the image and the urge to snack heavily while watching TV. 

Ericksonian Hypnosis

Milton Erickson, an esteemed American hypnotist, believed that the mind is always listening. His method engages the mind actively during the process. The technique use stories that suggest lessons to the subconscious mind. Through isomorphic metaphors or stories that give a moral, the mind relates the story to a problem behavior.

Another technique under this strategy is the embedded command technique, which tells the subconscious mind stories containing hidden suggestions. The mind is distracted by those suggestions and accepts them.

Ericksonian hypnosis also applies process instructions by directing the subconscious to remember a past learning experience and use that experience to change existing habits and attitudes.

Self-Hypnosis

When you hypnotize yourself, you are doing self-hypnosis tool. In a relaxed state, you direct suggestions to your subconscious to drop destructive habits. This should not be confused with meditation because the technique draws heavily on the self’s commitment to change. The suggestions are not impossible demands but practical suggestions the mind can accept.

The positive suggestions with this type of hypnotism encourage building self-esteem, reduce stress, and manage destructive habits. The thinking pattern is shifted towards achieving goals such as weight reduction.
