Weight Loss Liposuction

Weight loss liposuction is not a bariatric surgery procedure

 Weight loss liposuction may sound like some means for quick weights loss, but unfortunately it is not. Though it involves the removal of body fat, it is infact a cosmetic procedure in the field of plastic surgery, rather than weight loss surgery (bariatric surgery)

    Though there is a concept refered to as "High Volume Liposuction", it is still not recognised as a means for losing weight.
    And like most credible material on bariatric surgery,   "Flat Stomach Formula" (Get The Lite Version FREE Here)  does not consider weight loss liposuction as a procedure for losing weight. By the way is is a must read if you thinking about surgery.

    But again, like bariatric surgery it may be useful to some people in some circumstances.

    Unlike standard bariatric surgery, for example gastric bypass; lap-band weight loss surgery or laparoscopic weight loss surgery, weight loss liposuction is so called because it can be used to provide "finesse" on individuals having problems getting rid of the final 5-10 pounds. Particularly if this fat is specific to particular areas e.g. lower abdomen, ‘love handles’, saggy thigh or large hips etc.

    The fat composition and distribution on an individual is dependant on a number of factors. These include genetics, hormones, diets, exercise etc. All these determine how much fat is deposited and where the fat is deposited. As one gains weight the body store this body fat in special cells called fat cells (Adipose tissue).

    In weight loss the amount of fat in this cells are reduced resulting to lower body fat percentage. However the fat cells still remain. Depending on individual, some parts of the body like the waist and abdomen in men and frequently thighs and hips in women tend to hang on these fats.

    This means you will lose fat on the rest of the body but have prominent bulges in these areas. And though you are tending towards slim, you have a bumpy body contour or body silhouette.

    Liposuction is used in such cases to smoothen the body contour giving you a smoothly curved body without the "love handles", "pot belly", and saggy bottoms. Many individuals get near perfect toning with the use of exercise, but equally many do not. And this is because as much as exercises reduce the amount of fat stored in cells; it doesn’t affect the number of fat cells available.

    These fat cells can easily get filled with body fat again with the small but frequent relapses in diet. These cells get some amount of fat that never seem to go; keeping the small pot bellies and love handles constant features on your body. Generally they are just difficult to get rid of.

    Liposuction sucks out the fat as well as fat cells in the specific region giving you an instant body contour and tone. As mentioned this procedure is not a weight loss procedure it is only advised for individuals 5-10 pounds above their stable as ideal weight. Once you get the procedure done you do not want to start fluctuating your weight again. Further more the procedure is only effective with subcutaneous fat. This is fat just under the skin, unlike visceral fat which is found surrounding internal organs.

    How is Liposuction Done?

    Weight loss liposuction involves cannulas which is a long slender pen like instrument liberally sucks out the fat from under the skin. The procedure has little if any effect on visceral fat. To loss this weight you will need the conventional weight loss diet and weight loss exercise

    Liposuction can be grouped into two groups depending either on the fluid injected to aid the procedure or the mechanism used to break the fat to allow for suction. Based on fluid injected there are generally four types of liposuction;

    • Dry Liposuction - uses little fluids generally much less than the fat sanctioned.
    • Wet liposuction - uses little fluids generally much less than the fat sanctioned .
    • Supper wet liposuction -use same amounts of fluid as the fats suctioned.
    • Tumescent liposuction - uses as much as 3-4 times fluid as the fat that will be suctioned.
    The fluid used in the procedure includes lidocane which is a local anesthetic, epinephrine which contracts the blood vessels to minimize bleeding and a salt solution that makes the fluid saline just like our natural body fluids the fluids. The fluid allows for safer and efficient suction of the body fat with rapid healing and improved cosmetic results.

    Dry liposuction is rarely used nowadays with tumescent being the more preferred method by surgeons.

    Liposuction can also be grouped into four based on the mechanism used to break the fat to allow for liposuction. There are;

    • Suction assisted liposuction - This simply uses the cannula to break the fat. The surgeon pushes and pulls the instrument around the area gently, mechanically breaking the fat with the movement under the skin while sucking out.
    • Ultra- sound Assisted liposuction - This method uses a specialized cannula which transmits ultrasound vibrations into the body. The vibrations burst the walls of the fat cells, liquefying it making it easier to suction. Unfortunately after a celebrated entry of the technique, it has been found to have more complications and it is not commonly used.
    • Power assisted liposuction - This is similar to suction assisted only this time the cannula is specialized. The cannula makes the mechanical movements automatically and the surgeon does not have to manually wave it around the fat areas to mechanically break the ft for suction.
    • External assisted liposuction - this also use ultrasound, only this time its done externally. It is found to be safer than the internal ultra sound liposuction.
    After the procedure, the patients need to wear a specific tight garment to compress the area of the procedure for some time without ever removing it. This helps to set the body contours. The time varies with the area worked on and can be as many as 3-6 weeks.

    During this time exercise like all other plastic surgery procedure, are discouraged. Liposuction combined with other plastic surgery technique can particularly assist after the dramatic weight loss surgery. You can see different types of weight loss sugery procedures here.
