One of the major benefits of the exercise system is that it results to weight loss. Consequently, people are looking to what is getting to be known as "Weight Loss Pilate" to shed some weight.

Fat Loss 4 Idiots (lose 40 lbs with Calorie Shifting ) does recommend whatever form of exercising to boost permanent weight loss. It is often harder to lose weight without exercising for many people.

Joseph Pilate, the developer of pilates was from England. He worked as a self defense instructor for detectives of the famed Scotland Yard Detectives. During the World War One, he developed an exercising regime that would help injured and recovering soldiers preserve their much needed muscle build and increase recovery time. This is what he went on to refine to become the now famous pilate.

The exercise regiment has even been used by dancers to enhance performance due to its ability to train what are referred to as core muscles. It is probably also good in improving your weight loss fitness.

Can You Lose Weight With Pilates?

Yes, pilates can lead to significant weight loss. As noted by Fat Loss 4 Idiots (lose 40 lbs with Calorie Shifting ) , the sequence of events that lead to weight loss by pilates exercise is very similar to the weight loss by strength training

This physical system involves gentle and flowing movements. The movements are done while supporting either or a combination of lower back, hip, buttocks or abdomen. And it engages muscles in all the areas. Infact it targets very deep muscles, as deep as those directly attached to the spinal cord.

And as much as the movement may sound simple, the exercise can get unbelievably strenuous. This is especially so if you consider there are normally no weight included.

    How strenuous you ask?

Imagine you are in a sitted position on the floor with legs moderately apart. Then lift your legs slowly concentrating not to lose balance. The only part of yourself that is supported is your buttocks as supported by the floor. Lean backwards, to allow for the movement. Then with your hand gently reach for your ankles, legs straight and not bent at the knee. Arm straight and not bent at the elbow, then hold that position.

Due to the gentle movement of the exercise turn, most will not break into a sweat. However it will “tear” your muscles enough to strengthen them. The slow methodic and controlled lift of the legs in the above movement will strengthen muscle in your back, thighs and buttocks just to name a few. All this are large muscles that increase in size to a small extent and tone to a large extent.

The weight loss benefit comes from this strengthening of muscle tissue. As muscle strengthen they also increase in size. Both these effects tend to increase the BMR for up to 17 hrs from the time of training. Compare this with the increased metabolism during and an hour after a weight loss aerobic session.

Pilates by the way is not exactly an aerobic exercise  like running weight loss or walking weight loss. It is more of a resistance training though it does involve deep methodical breathing. But during a work out it doesn’t necessarily have the higher calorie burn associated with aerobics. Consequently you will often be advised to combine it with some aerobics for optimal weight loss.

Weight loss pilates is possible with as little as a matt and DVD all the way to specialized equipments. But as recommended in  Fat Loss 4 Idiots (lose 40 lbs with Calorie Shifting ) , even with all weight loss exercises, you still need to combine them with a weight loss diet.
