The small pouch will not allow enough quantities of regular foods to allow for all the nutrients you need.

The weight loss surgery diet has to use these means to ensure that your body gets its full requirement of nutrient despite the physical challenges. 

Secondly, the diet should protect the procedure and allow the raw tissue time to heal. This is particularly so immediately after surgery. The early weight loss surgery diet is liquid. This is then followed by a puree form of diet. These textures do not put pressure on the healing wound e.g. stitches and staples used in the procedures, allowing them to heal without problems. 

Thirdly the weight loss surgery diet is used to keep you off regaining weight. Even with bariatric surgery, or any form of gastric bypass it is very possible to regain weight over time. If you end up a diet frequent with ice-creams it is just a matter of time. 

Finally the weight loss surgery diet assists in preventing possible side effects of poor diet like nausea or even vomiting. Your Diet After Surgery

Usually when you wake up from the surgery, you will have a tube through your nose to the small pouch (new stomach). You will be required to drink sips of fluids regularly. The tube is used to suck out any excess fluids you drink. This prevents you from exerting pressure to the fresh wounds. 

Within a few hours you will get used to the amount of fluids you can take at a time and the tube will be removed. Hydration is a high priority after surgery. As a matter of fact, because you will likely not eat and drink at the same time, if you have to choose between drinking and eating, often choose to drink. 

Fluids should be consumed on near consistent basis. Remember you need up to 8 glasses of water through the day. Unfortunately your stomach pouch is so small it can only hold a few sips comfortably at a time. So to keep up with your needs you need to be sipping constantly. 

You are likely not to feel hungry for 4-6 weeks during which time you will only eat one or two means in two to three day. In this period you shed so much body fat it is nearly unbelievable. Usually your diet will mainly consist of liquids like broth, milk or cereals. But pureed foods mashed softly are introduced 3-7 days after surgery. 

The pureed food are a thick liquid foods that have been crushed and smoothed out. You don’t want to have individual pieces of food. These can easily injure your stitches (staples) or block food passage. You will stay on pureed food for about a month at times longer depending on the type of weight loss surgery and your surgeon’s advice. Thereafter introduction of soft and tender foods begin. These are foods that are easily to chew like finely ground meats, fruits and cooked vegetables. 

By the 3rd to sixth month from surgery you should be able to eat the exact same food as the rest of the family members only this time is very small portions. For example a single chicken wing may contribute a full lunch meal. Note that particularly in the first weeks after surgery, you need a lot of proteins in your diet. 

Protein shakes and egg white can be mashed to provide this. Protein is very necessary to promote quick recovery and healing. After weight loss surgery you will need to learn some new eating habits. 

You will learn to thoroughly chew your food before you swallow. This is because large pieces of foods can block the opening to your intestines. 

An un-natural trait you will first feel awkward about is to learn to eat without drinking. If you mix this two, you will tend to consume more calories than necessary because you quickly wash the food from the stomach pouch into the intestines. This means you take in more food before you feel full. 

But also the reverse could be true. If you as you eat and drink, you eat so little that you are deprived off critical nutrients and energy. You will also learn to discern to feel full quicker. If you fill your pouch with food it gets irritated, making you uncomfortable for hours. 

High sugar food will become repulsive after your suffer dumping syndrome a number of times. Dumping syndrome is one of the risks of bariatric surgery

The severe restrictions of your lifetime diet after surgery is one of the disadvantages of weight loss surgery. But with alittle more information you can make life after surgery great.
